Teeth Whitening FAQ

Why should I whiten my teeth?

If you desire whiter, brighter teeth, whitening might be for you. We can remove the effects of aging, coffee or tea consumption, smoking, and medication.

How long will it take for me to see results?

Results depend on the type of whitening you are doing. For in-office whitening procedures, you can often see results in the very first visit. After only 3-4 visits, your teeth will reach your ideal shade. If you are using an at-home kit, results can take a few weeks.

Should I have a dental cleaning before beginning a whitening treatment?

Yes – we recommend having a professional cleaning prior to whitening your teeth. Plaque and tartar buildup won’t respond to whitening, so it is always a good idea to have this removed so you can achieve ideal results.

Does tooth whitening hurt?

Whitening your teeth is not painful, however it can cause sensitivity so you may want to avoid food or drinks that are too hot or cold immediately following your procedure. If there is additional discomfort due to the sensitivity, you can also take an over-the-counter pain reliever. Discuss this with your dentist and we can help find a way to minimize sensitivity after future procedures.

How long will tooth whitening last?

If you take proper care of your smile and avoid food, drink and habits that can stain your teeth, your in-office tooth whitening should last up to a year. At-home whitening should last several months.
