Invisalign Treatment

Invisalign is a revolutionary way to get a straighter, healthier smile without traditional bracket and wire braces. Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic aligners to gently guide your teeth into their most ideal locations. The aligners are comfortable and removable, and because they are clear they are virtually invisible. That means you can get the smile of your dreams as inconspicuously as possible.

Invisalign aligners can be removed but should be worn a minimum of 22 hours a day to achieve the best results. Teens and adults can benefit from Invisalign treatment.

Invisalign works through a technology called SmartTrack, which applies gentle, constant force and to achieve controlled tooth movements. The aligners fit snugly around the teeth to predictably guide them to their new locations.

Invisalign FAQs

Am I an ideal candidate for Invisalign treatment?

Invisalign is excellent in corrected mild to moderate malocclusions. To determine if your issue is one that can be treated with Invisalign, schedule a consultation with Smile Care Dentistry.

How does Invisalign treatment work?

Your aligners will be custom created for your individual smile. Each set is perfectly calibrated to achieve a certain tooth movement over the course of wear. You’ll wear each set for 22 hours a day for approximately two weeks before moving on to the next set. Invisalign’s SmartTrack technology will gently guide your teeth to their perfect positions.

Does Invisalign treatment hurt?

Unlike traditional orthodontic treatment using metal and wire braces, Invisalign aligners are made of a smooth plastic. That means there is no metal to irritate the inside of your mouth. However, the process is still moving your teeth through bone, so there will be a bit of discomfort involved, especially when switching to a new set of aligners. This usually subsides quickly, however. You can take an over-the-counter pain medication to relieve discomfort.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

Treatment time varies depending on your specific case; however, the average treatment time is 12-18 months.

Will I have to make changes to my lifestyle while I’m in Invisalign treatment?

Invisalign doesn’t require major changes to how you live your life. It will be important to increase your oral hygiene and brush after eating and drinking and take proper care of your aligners. It is also important to remember to remove your aligners before eating or drinking anything by water. It can take a bit of practice to seamlessly remove and replace your aligners in your mouth. Always remember to wash your hands before removing and replacing your aligners. Because you remove your aligners before eating, you do not have to make any dietary changes.

Is it possible for my filling to fall out?

It is possible for a filling to fall out, however, this tends to only happen when the filling is worn out. If you maintain twice yearly visits with your dentist, we can monitor the wear of your filling and replace it at the first indication. If your filling needs to be replaced, we will remove the old filling and replace it with a completely new one. For some patients, we may be able to repair their previous filling by adding additional layers of composite. We will aim to repair as often as possible so that we can ensure the integrity of your natural tooth structure.
